Beth Vandervennet

Beth Vandervennet’s formative years were spent in Michigan. Beth began her cello studies many moons ago at the ripe old age of 10, simply because she was drawn to the fact that nobody else in the class dared to select the large behemoth of a cello—it was also convenient that her home was quite near her public elementary school.
Beth found her way to music school for a stimulating and well- rounded education at University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon University, and Kent State University. All that action in the Midwest drove her westward to explore the music and arts scene in the San Francisco Bay area. Beth has called Oakland home for over 20 years, while bathing herself in a wonderful variety of music making: From Orchestral masterpieces to Squid Inc. Strings mashups, from original Pagan Lounge sounds of Rosin Coven, haunting soundscapes of Fertile Void to traditional chamber music of the grand masters. Beth is also a committed teaching artist and community team player throughout Oakland in programs such as the Oakland Symphony’s MUSE (Music for Excellence program) as well as a creative Arts Advocate for music making our lives a richer place to be. Favorites you ask? Her favorite color is purple and favorite veggie is Kale. Leisure time is spent skiing, hiking, backpacking, and pondering the goodness of holistic and creative living with her husband and son.
