Elephant Empire

Elephant Empire mixes silliness with drama, presenting classic sketch comedy around a strange tale that is "funny for a different reason." So we've got sketches about drinking too much milk, falling down stairs, and a 26-step orange peeler but then we perform a story like the Monkey's Paw which isn't funny but, c'mon, yes it is.

We are close friends who met in Toronto's comedy scene, united by our love of theatre, comedy and a baby we found in a basket in the river. Together, we named this baby "Elephant Empire". We nurtured and raised it to become a poet but it rebelled and enrolled in the police academy can you believe it? Devastated, we named our sketch troupe Elephant Empire (but NOT after our baby/traitor).

Our vibe is Monty Python's Flying Circus with Anton Chekhov. Another one we came up with is: we're like Key, Peele & the guy who wrote the Monkey's Paw.

Get this, years later we were pulled over for speeding and guess who wrote the ticket? Yup. We couldn't recognize them through a wall of anger we had built over years. We're on in five minutes but we just read the ticket and it says, 'good luck at SF Sketchfest, love Officer Elephant Empire' so we're outside in the car bawling.
