FATCH - The Fat Sketch Comedy Show
FATCH - The Fat Sketch Comedy Show is written and performed by a cast of fat women, who are not only culturally diverse but come from diverse performance backgrounds. In 2018, Nikki Bailey, one of the original founders of LA-based sketch team Women of Color Anonymous, decided on a new challenge: bringing together a body-inclusive sketch team that would break down body bias through comedy. She searched extensively, both in traditional comedy spaces, and in alternative, fat creative spaces, for talented fat women looking to create not just sketch, but a movement. The backgrounds of FATCH members range from UCB sketch and improv, to the Philadelphia stand-up comedy circuit, and from Broadway shows to Spanish-language television. The show contains sketch, film, stand-up comedy, and musical sketches, written from the fat perspective, but are not always about being fat, nor do they use fatness as a punchline. Personal experience and current events serve as inspiration for writing material, making the shows fun, relatable, topical, and inspirational. The women of FATCH participate actively in the fat-positive community and include plus-size model, dancer, and host of Fat TV World, Dellany Peace, the original cast member of "Wicked" and host of Plus This, Kathy Deitch, and Instagram model and body-positive influencer, Simone Mariposa. This team of intersectional comedy queens is writing fresh new content that is healing people through laughter.
