Lakeview: Crowd Working for the Weekend with Kaseem Bentley
Comedian Kaseem Bentley has been a mainstay of the Bay Area comedy scene for years. On the heels of the release of his hilarious debut album, Lakeview, he’s taking his show on the road, bringing his knack for crowd work to rooms beyond the bay.

The SF Chronicle writes: “Bentley earns his largest laughs in spontaneous moments”. And it’s true. Kaseem has a knack for finding new and singular moments each time he performs whether its playfully skewering the top 1% at a show in one of SF’s elite private tech clubs or holding court for his people at The Rite Spot in The Mission.

Kaseem bars no holds and minces no words, speaking candidly about sensitive topics like race, religion and PC culture, but does so in a way that doesn’t come across as inflammatory or cruel. He skewers such subjects in an endearing and empathetic way, managing to win over even those in the audience that he mines for humor. ($18, All Ages)

At this bizarre moment in our nation's history, her efforts have contributed over $10,000 to #theresistance.Festival credits include Bridgetown,The Comedy Exposition, repeated appearances at SF Sketchfest and The All Jane Comedy Festival, The 208 Festival, Bumbershoot, Seattle Sketchfest, Portland Pride, Treefort Festival and Cromfest. She has recently performed for sold out crowds at UCBeast, UCB Chelsea and The Stand Nightclub in NYC, and esteemed shows in LA like "Put Your Hands Together. Dark Jeans with JoAnn Schinderle (SOLD OUT)
This show is SOLD OUT. Tickets may be available at the door night-of.

Periods are really having a moment, yet affordable access to period products are limited or nonexistent across the globe. ‘Period poverty’ is an issue that restricts menstrual humans from going to school, work, and being their beautiful social selves.

Stand-Up Comic JoAnn Schinderle has lifted the veil on period shame and turned the conversation to laughter and action. DARK JEANS was created out of spite that “menstruation jokes are hack” and to that Schinderle said, “hold my menstrual cup”.

DARK JEANS is Schinderle’s debut album produced by Cranival Studios and released on Comedy Dynamics that sat #1 on iTunes during the week of its release. Expect hilarious and sometimes jaw clenching menstruation fueled jokes, from poignant bits about how workplaces should provide period products to stories about a lover discovering a forgotten tampon during foreplay, if there’s one thing JoAnn is it’s grossly relatable.

Schinderle tours DARK JEANS across the country raising period products for local shelters and transitional housing organizations. donations of pads, tampons, un-used menstrual cups, dark jeans, towels, etc. are highly encouraged.

January 11th show features top-notch comics Hanna Dickinson, Caitlin Cook, Kristal Adams, Shalewa Sharpe, Sharon Birzer, Francesca Fiorentini, and headliner JoAnn Schinderle.

Period products donations will be sent to SF Homeless Youth Alliance. ($18, All Ages)

Hailed as a modern day cross between Jackie Gleason, Don Rickles, and Eckhart Tolle, Eddie is a force of nature onstage, switching between social rage and self-doubt. His shows are an energetic combo of calm and chaos, blue-collar angst and sardonic enlightenment. It’s no wonder that Eddie is considered a favorite of such other comedy greats as Patton Oswalt, Marc Maron, Sarah Silverman, and Zach Galifianakis. His international debut at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival was lauded as a “tour-de-force” and “jaw-achingly hilarious”.

His comedy album "A Great Stillness" debuted on Billboard’s Comedy Top 10 and he was the subject of the award-winning documentary "The Bitter Buddha," which was hailed as “an instant classic”. His hour-long comedy special, "Eddie Pepitone: In Ruins," debuted on Netflix. Eddie is also a social media stalwart and his Twitter account @eddiepepitone has been hailed as a “must-follow”.

In addition to his regular stand-up performances, Eddie is a stand-out character actor. On the television front, he has been a mainstay on American broadcast and cable networks, recurring on "Community," "Maron," "Conan," "Kickin’ It," "Bob’s Burgers," "Love," and "Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell." Other notable turns include "Will & Grace," "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," "Corporate," "The Goldbergs," "Arrested Development," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "The Flight of the Conchords," "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia," "Chappelle’s Show," two seasons of "Last Comic Standing," and "The Sarah Silverman Program."

Capitol PUN-ishment (SOLD OUT)
This show is SOLD OUT. Tickets may be available at the door night-of.

Capitol PUNishment is a fast-paced, in-the-moment spectacle that combines everything you love about gameshows, rap-battles, and "dad" jokes, into a unique and hilarious competitive format. Audiences have cheered, groaned, and loved (often all at once) Capitol PUNishment for over two years. The show has enjoyed a nearly year-long string of sold-out performances from Sacramento to Mill Valley, where Capitol PUNishment had a pilot taping at the famous Throckmorton Theater. The show utilizes a PUNwheel to select a random topic, keeping the rotating line-up of four contestants per show (and audiences) on their intellectual toes. Competitors must outlast, outwit, and outpun each other to get to the final round: a boss-battle against creators/producers/all-around pun savants, Daniel Humbarger and Damian Harmony. Mark Burg referees each round, bringing his own brand of wit to the show, and keeps things going at a quick and steady rhythm. Interludes featuring Daniel and Damian facing off using crowd-suggested topics keep the audience engaged and impressed, as the lightning quick duo battle each other, forming puns and trying to out-do each other in real time. Once a tournament champion emerges, he or she moves on to the boss battle, which becomes an endurance run, with the "bosses" having all the advantages. Can the tournament champion survive and defeat Damian and Daniel? Only a handful have! Who's next? ($18, All Ages)

Adam Cayton-Holland: Happy Place
“Happy Place” is the new-one-man show from Adam Cayton-Holland, loosely adapted for stage from his critically acclaimed memoir, “Tragedy Plus Time” (Simon & Schuster)

“This is Cayton-Holland’s heartbreaking work of genius . . . an unforgettable read.” – Booklist

“‘Tragedy Plus Time’ absolutely gutted me—then it filled me with hope. I hate that Adam has this story to tell, but he tells it so beautifully.” – Tig Notaro

Cayton-Holland was plugging away in the world of stand-up, steadily climbing the comedy ladder, when the unthinkable happened: his little sister Lydia killed herself. His best friend, his earliest collaborator, the funniest person he knew, gone, in an instant. Life, as he knew it, was forever changed. His family was devastated. They had been there for Lydia every step of the way. They all thought she was going to get through this. But she didn’t. Instead the rug was pulled out from underneath them. Suddenly, everything felt like a lie. Adam’s “Happy Place” was leveled. He quit stand-up. Nothing felt funny anymore. Just getting out of bed was hard. Through time, plenty of therapy, and constant soul-searching, eventually Adam was able to put one foot in front of the other, to find joy in comedy again. It was, after all, a “Happy Place” that both he and Lydia had cherished. Never shying away from the tough subject matter of mental illness, depression and suicide, “Happy Place” is a darkly funny exploration of going through the unimaginable, and learning to find your sense of humor again. Funny, sad, touching and real, “Happy Place” never condescends to the viewer through and-then-comedy-saved-my-life bullshit tropes. Instead it is a refreshing and honest look at the way life throws bad at you with the good, and the desperate struggle of trying to not drown under the weight of it all. Facial Recognition Comedy
Facial Recognition Comedy is a nationally touring stand-up show, weekly podcast, and expanding comedy brand featuring female-identifying performers of South Asian descent. Our goal is to showcase the vast diversity within our demographic and combat tokenism. We are here to dispel the Hollywood myth that “there can only be one” type of minority entertainer per project. Basically, this show was created to let everyone know that we are NOT the same person!

In 2018, Facial Recognition Comedy was listed as one of New York Times‘ top 5 shows to see at the 2018 New York Comedy Festival, and has been featured in Vulture’s Splitsider. In 2019, Facial Recognition Comedy was featured in VoyageLA and Daily Beast. We’ve sold out shows in Los Angeles, New York City, Houston, San Francisco, and San Diego, and sold out our SF Sketchfest shows two years in a row! Past performers have included Aparna Nancherla and Russell Peters guest-hosting.

Our live stand-up show has a monthly residency in Santa Monica at the Westside Comedy Theater at 9pm on the second Sunday of every month. The weekly Facial Recognition Comedy podcast is available on iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud, Google Play, Stitcher, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, and Spreaker, with a new episode every Tuesday. Check out our calendar for upcoming shows and events! This is a partially seated show—arrive early for a seat. ($22, 21+)

I Think I'd Be Good At That
Lots of comics have audience members come up after shows and tell them that their friends or coworkers have always told them they’d make a good comedian. But starting standup involves writing jokes, going to open mikes and being terrible for a while. So most intelligent people don’t even bother trying. To give those sane people a chance to feel the thrill of doing comedy, I created a show where they get to experience being a comic with the help of veteran comedians who write jokes and coach them in taking the stage. We remove all the stuff that can make that first set awful and give them the tips and tricks to succeed. “I Think I’d Be Good At That” is one of the most unique, crazy and fun comedy shows in the Bay Area. And so far, all our Newcomers have crushed it at the show and we’ve been helping people get a taste for what keeps comedians coming back to the stage. ($18, All Ages)
